Adaptive Behavior

The Adaptive Behavior Program serves students with severe cognitive and/or communicative functioning deficiencies and/or autism who have not been successful in special programs at their regular campus. These students typically display serious behavioral/emotional problems in addition to their low cognitive, communicative and/or autistic characteristics.  We work with these students on individualized programs that meet their needs in the areas of daily living, functional academics, reading, writing, math, real-world science, and social studies, etc. Our goal with these students is to assist them in developing the behavioral, emotional and academic skills they need to successfully reintegrate back into their programs at their home campuses. There are typically about two students in a classroom with one teacher and one paraprofessional.

Our school programs operate under the Denton County Special Education Co-Op and serve students from six rural Denton County school districts (i.e. Aubrey, Argyle, Krum, Pilot Point, Ponder and Sanger). The Challenge/Journey Program and Adaptive Behavior Program are all part of the Co-Op. There are approximately 26 campuses that send students to our programs.
